The boy's basketball team hosted Lavergne in the last home game of the season
on Friday. The boy's team came off a tight win against Riverdale but had
lost at their previous meeting at Lavergne. The boys went into the game as the
underdogs but came out as the victors. Lavergne is a team that is very athletic,
strong, and experienced. Smyrna is athletic, young, and enduring. Our boys,
despite the many district losses, have only kept their heads high and because of
their excellent coaching staff have been able overcome many difficulties.

The Lady Bulldogs looked uncomfortable Tuesday night during their first road
game in over a month. The girls had a slow start, resulting in a
twenty-two point deficit at halftime. Although the girls outscored
Riverdale in the second half by seven, it wasn't enough, ending in a 66-51
loss. Coach Mid's post-game remarks included, "This district is very
tough from top to bottom. You have to play hard every night, or you have
no chance."

The Boys Basketball team traveled to Riverdale Tuesday night hoping for
a district win. The Bulldogs played an excellent first half and were up by
five at the break. However, both the offense and defense lost steam as the
second half elapsed. The Bulldogs trailed for most of the second half, but
were able to close Riverdale's lead to two before losing by only eight.
Terrance Malone and Parrish Gaines were Coach Drayton's standout players of the
night.
